Rosary in Aurora to present ‘Fiddler on the Roof’


Rosary High School will present “Fiddler on the Roof” Nov. 3 to 6 at the school, 901 N. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora.

The production team includes Megan Carron, producer, vocal and orchestra director; and director Laura Biancalana, both teachers at Rosary High School.

The cast, crew and pit orchestra includes more than 50 students from Rosary High School and Marmion Academy in Aurora, Rosary officials said in a news release.

Music will be provided by select members of the Rosary Symphony Orchestra and the Marmion-Rosary Band, and some local musicians.

Show dates are 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3; 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4; 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and senior citizens.

Adults 21 years old and older are welcome to visit The Anatevka Tavern before the show and during intermission at the school on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for wine, beer and specialty cocktails. This is a fundraiser event sponsored by the Rosary Fine Arts Boosters.

Rosary High School is a Catholic, college-prep high school for young women sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois.

The St. Charles Business Alliance has extended the deadline for entry into the St. Charles Electric Christmas Parade set for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 26 in downtown St. Charles.

Businesses, non-profits and community groups which are interested in being in the parade may return the completed application and additional documents by no later than 4 p.m. Nov. 4.

Applications for the Electric Christmas Parade can be found at stcholidayhomecoming.com. All the necessary documents must be returned to the St. Charles Business Alliance at 2 E. Main St., St. Charles, IL 60174, or emailed to [email protected].

The Electric Christmas Parade is part of the two-day St. Charles Holiday Homecoming event, which kicks off on Nov. 25.

Nominations are being taken for the annual Batavia Citizen of the Year Award.

The winner will be the guest of honor at the Batavia Chamber of Commerce’s annual recognition event. The Inspire 2023 awards celebration will take place in April 2023.

The Citizen of the Year Award is given to a local resident whose service and dedication have made a significant contribution to the community, Chamber officials said.

Nominees must live or have their business in Batavia or Batavia Township and have assisted in an improvement or program of significant value to the Batavia community, according to officials.

Those nominated may not currently be on the board of directors of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce and do not need to be a member of the Chamber.

To nominate someone, submit a letter of recommendation to the Batavia Chamber of Commerce, 106 W. Wilson St., Batavia, no later than Nov. 11. The letter should state the reasons why the nominee is worthy of this honor, officials said.

It can be dropped off, mailed or emailed to [email protected]. A committee of previous recipients of the award will select the Batavia Citizen of the Year based upon the letters of recommendation received.

Application forms for Waubonsee Community College Foundation scholarships for the 2023-24 academic year will be available Nov. 1.

By completing an online application, current and prospective Waubonsee students are considered for all foundation scholarship opportunities for which they meet the criteria, officials said.

Currently, the foundation administers over 160 scholarships, many with multiple awards ranging from $250 to $3,500.

During the 2022-23 academic year, the Waubonsee Community College Foundation awarded scholarships totaling over $343,500 to 311 recipients.
